Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 3 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 6 slices ham (thinly sliced)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyère, or Swiss work well)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare Puff Pastry:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to ensure it’s smooth and slightly thinner.
- Layer Ingredients:
- Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry (if using).
- Arrange the ham slices over the mustard, covering the pastry completely.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the ham.
- Roll and Slice:
- Starting from one long edge, roll the puff pastry tightly into a log.
- Chill the roll in the fridge for about 10–15 minutes to firm it up for easier slicing.
- Cut Pinwheels:
- Once chilled, slice the roll into 1/2-inch thick rounds using a sharp knife.
- Place the pinwheels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Add Finishing Touches:
- Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the beaten egg to give them a golden finish.
- Sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds over the pinwheels for added texture and flavor (optional).
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Serve:
- Let the pinwheels cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm as an appetizer, snack, or party treat!
Tips:
- Experiment with fillings, such as adding spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, or substituting ham for turkey or salami.
- These can be made ahead and stored in the fridge or freezer, baking them fresh when needed.
