Mozzarella Onion Rings Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 large onions
- 200g (7 oz) mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Onion Rings:
- Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings.
- Separate the onion rings carefully. Select larger rings and set smaller ones aside for another use.
- Assemble Mozzarella-Filled Rings:
- Take two onion rings, one slightly smaller than the other.
- Place a mozzarella stick between the rings, filling the gap completely. Repeat with the remaining rings.
- Set Up a Breading Station:
- In one bowl, place the flour.
- In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
- In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese (if using), garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Coat the Rings:
- Coat each onion ring in flour, ensuring all surfaces are covered.
- Dip the floured ring into the beaten eggs.
- Press the ring into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for an extra-crispy result.
- Chill:
- Place the coated onion rings on a tray lined with parchment paper.
- Chill in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to firm up and prevent cheese from melting during frying.
- Fry the Rings:
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or frying pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the rings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Enjoy the cheesy, crispy goodness!
