Here’s a recipe for Coal Slice and Chocolate Slice by Birgitta Rasmusson:
Coal Slice (Kola Slices)
Ingredients:
- 200g (7 oz) butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, and milk. Bring to a boil and let it cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the melted butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into squares or rectangles and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until set. Let them cool completely before serving.
Chocolate Slice (Choklad Slices)
Ingredients:
- 200g (7 oz) butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups crushed digestive biscuits or graham crackers
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, and milk. Bring to a boil, and cook for about 2 minutes while stirring.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Add the crushed biscuits, nuts (if using), and vanilla extract to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a lined baking dish and press it down firmly.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
- Cut into slices and serve.
