Homemade Cinnamon Rolls Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a small bowl, warm the milk until it reaches about 110°F (45°C). Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and eggs. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, either by hand or using a stand mixer with a dough hook, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Assemble the Rolls:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 16×12 inches in size.
- Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- Starting from the long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Cut the log into 12-15 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll for expansion.
- Second Rise:
- Cover the baking dish with a towel and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
- Bake the Rolls:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Prepare the Frosting:
- Beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth in a medium bowl.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and enough milk to reach your desired consistency.
- Frost and Serve:
- Spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls.
- Serve the rolls warm and enjoy!
