Ingredients
For the Taco Shells and Filling:
- 8 taco shells (hard or soft, your preference)
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef, chicken, or turkey
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix (or homemade seasoning)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
For the Nacho Toppings:
- 1 cup tortilla chips, crushed
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup black olives, sliced (optional)
- 1/2 cup jalapeños, sliced (optional)
- 1/4 cup diced red onions
- 1 avocado, diced or mashed (guacamole works too)
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- Salsa or pico de gallo, to taste
- Hot sauce, optional
Instructions
- Cook the Protein
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the ground meat until browned.
- Drain any excess fat, add taco seasoning and water, then cook until the sauce thickens (about 3–5 minutes). Set aside.
- Prepare the Taco Shells
- If using hard taco shells, warm them in the oven according to package instructions.
- For soft tortillas, warm them on a skillet for about 30 seconds on each side.
- Assemble the Tacos
- Fill each taco shell with a layer of seasoned meat and a sprinkle of shredded cheese.
- Top with crushed tortilla chips for that nacho crunch.
- Add Nacho Toppings
- Layer on the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, red onions, olives, and jalapeños.
- Add avocado or a dollop of guacamole, sour cream, and salsa.
- Garnish and Serve
- Sprinkle with fresh cilantro, drizzle hot sauce if desired, and enjoy immediately!
Tips
- Vegetarian Option: Substitute the meat with seasoned black beans or lentils.
- Cheese Sauce: Drizzle a homemade cheese sauce instead of shredded cheese for extra creaminess.
- Customizable Toppings: Add your favorite nacho ingredients like corn, beans, or queso fresco.
