Strawberry bombs are delightful, bite-sized treats filled with fresh strawberries and creamy filling, all wrapped in a soft, sweet dough. Here’s a recipe to make these delicious strawberry bombs at home:
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk (110°F or 45°C)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
For the Filling:
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Coating:
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add the warm milk, softened butter, and egg. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Filling:
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Gently fold in the chopped strawberries. Set aside.
3. Assemble the Strawberry Bombs:
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Flatten each piece of dough into a small circle.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of the strawberry filling in the center of each dough circle.
- Carefully gather the edges of the dough around the filling and pinch them together to seal. Make sure the filling is completely enclosed.
- Place the sealed dough balls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover with a towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
4. Bake and Coat:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the strawberry bombs for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- While the bombs are baking, prepare the coating by combining the sugar and cinnamon (if using) in a small bowl.
- After the bombs are done baking, brush them with the melted butter and immediately roll them in the sugar mixture to coat.
5. Serve:
- Let the strawberry bombs cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature!
Tips:
- These can also be filled with Nutella or other fruits like blueberries or raspberries.
- To make them even more indulgent, drizzle some chocolate or strawberry sauce over the top before serving.
