Street Tacos de Carne Asada Recipe
Ingredients
For the Carne Asada:
- 1 lb flank or skirt steak
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2-3 limes)
- 1/4 cup orange juice (about 1 orange)
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Tacos:
- 12 small corn tortillas
- 1 small white onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 limes, cut into wedges
- Salsa of your choice
- Optional: sliced radishes, crumbled queso fresco, avocado slices
Instructions
1. Prepare the Carne Asada Marinade:
- In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, lime juice, orange juice, olive oil, chopped cilantro, jalapeño, cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place the steak in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish.
- Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it is well coated.
- Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
2. Cook the Carne Asada:
- Preheat your grill to high heat.
- Remove the steak from the marinade and let any excess marinade drip off.
- Grill the steak for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness.
- Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Slice the steak thinly against the grain.
3. Warm the Tortillas:
- Heat the corn tortillas on the grill for about 30 seconds per side, until they are warm and slightly charred.
- Alternatively, you can heat them in a dry skillet over medium-high heat.
4. Assemble the Tacos:
- Place a few slices of carne asada on each tortilla.
- Top with chopped onion and cilantro.
- Serve with lime wedges, salsa, and any optional toppings like sliced radishes, crumbled queso fresco, or avocado slices.
