- 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup salsa
- 1/2 cup corn (optional)
- 1/2 cup black beans, drained and rinsed (optional)
For the Braid:
- 1 tube (13.8 oz) refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
Optional Toppings:
- Sour cream
- Guacamole
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Sliced jalapeños
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Make the Filling
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft.
- Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
- Add the salsa, corn, and black beans (if using). Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Prepare the Dough
- Roll out the pizza or crescent roll dough into a large rectangle on the parchment paper.
- Using a knife, cut 1-inch strips on both long sides of the dough, leaving the center intact for the filling.
- Assemble the Braid
- Spoon the taco filling evenly down the center of the dough.
- Sprinkle the cheese on top of the filling.
- Starting from one end, fold the dough strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braided pattern.
- Brush and Bake
- Brush the top of the braid with the beaten egg to give it a shiny, golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve
- Let the taco braid cool for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve with your favorite toppings like sour cream, guacamole, shredded lettuce, and diced tomatoes.
Tips:
- Substitute ground beef with shredded chicken or plant-based meat for variety.
- For an extra kick, add chopped jalapeños or hot sauce to the filling.
- Use crescent dough if you prefer a lighter, flakier texture.
Enjoy this taco braid as an easy dinner or party snack!
